The service

Access built for a full new-build programme

New-build projects move through a fixed sequence; foundations, brick and block work up to first floor, then second floor, roof structure, and finally windows, render and finishing trades. Thompsons Towers builds scaffolding designed to follow that sequence from the ground up, so each trade gets a safe, correctly loaded platform when they need it.

We're a family-run scaffolding business based in Hadlow near Tonbridge. Mason leads the crews on site, adjusting the scaffold as each stage of the build is completed, while Katie manages quotes, scheduling and communication with builders and developers running the programme.

For single plots or small developments, the scaffold needs to be planned around vehicle access, material storage, and how many trades will be working the elevation at once; that's assessed properly at the free site survey rather than guessed from a set of drawings alone.

Every project gets a written quote back within a day, and a standard six-week hire period, which we extend as needed to match a build programme that's rarely finished in exactly six weeks. Our price promise means we'll beat any genuine written quote already on the table.

We work with builders and developers across Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Hadlow, Kings Hill, Paddock Wood, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford, Gravesend and London, on everything from a single self-build plot to a small run of new homes.

Who it's for

Builders, developers and self-builders constructing a new house or small development from foundation level upward.

When you need it

From brick and block work at ground floor right through to roofing, windows, render and final finishing trades.

Why a professional scaffold

A build running to a tight programme needs access that's ready on time, correctly rated for material loads, and safe for multiple trades working simultaneously.

What it costs to wait

Why new-build access needs a proper plan

A new-build programme lives and dies by its schedule. Scaffolding that's late, wrongly sized, or has to be rebuilt part-way through a stage causes delays that ripple through every trade that follows.

Heavy material loading

Bricklaying and blockwork at height need a platform rated for stacked materials and constant foot traffic, not a lightweight structure meant for occasional access.

Multiple trades working the same elevation

On a tight build programme, brickies, roofers and window fitters can all need access to the same section within days of each other, so the scaffold has to handle that overlap safely.

Site logistics on an active build

Deliveries, plant movement and multiple trades on site all affect where the scaffold can sit, and getting that wrong can block access for other parts of the job.

Mistakes we get called out to fix

  • Ordering scaffolding sized for one stage only, then needing rework for the next
  • Underestimating loading needs for brick and block deliveries at height
  • Not planning loading bays, so materials are hand-carried up incomplete platforms
  • Leaving scaffolding in place longer than planned without confirming the extended hire
  • Ignoring site traffic routes when positioning the scaffold footprint
  • Skipping a formal design on a non-standard structure that actually needs one

Our process

From First Call To
Signed-Off Scaffold

01

Free site survey

We visit the plot or development, review the build programme and plan how the scaffold needs to progress stage by stage.

02

Written quote

A detailed, itemised quote is returned within one day, covering the standard six-week hire and any design work for larger structures.

03

Scaffold build

Our CISRS-carded team erects and progressively raises the scaffold in line with the build, from ground floor through to roof height.

04

Handover with paperwork

RAMS, scaff tags and inspection records are provided at each stage, ready for site managers and building control if needed.

05

Ongoing inspection & dismantle

We inspect weekly through the programme and dismantle once the build reaches practical completion.

What you get

Specific Outcomes,
Not Vague Promises

Kept in step with the build programme

The scaffold is raised in line with each construction stage, so trades aren't waiting on access to progress.

Rated for real construction loads

Platforms are built to handle stacked brick, block and roofing materials, not just occasional foot traffic.

Holds firm across a long programme

Properly tied and braced, the structure stays solid through months of continuous use across multiple trades.

Quoted competitively from the start

Our price promise to beat any genuine written quote helps keep access costs predictable across a whole development.

A team that understands build sequencing

Mason and the crew know how to adjust the scaffold at the right moments without holding up the next trade.

Confidence for site managers and neighbours alike

Known locally as the posh scaffolders, we keep even large builds tidy and controlled, which matters on developments near existing homes.

In detail

How new-build scaffolding is planned and built

New-build access is less about a single structure and more about a sequence of adjustments that track the build from foundation to roof.

Materials

New-build scaffolds are typically tube and fitting or system scaffold, chosen for strength and speed of adjustment as the build rises. Boards are laid to form a continuous working deck at each lift, rated to carry the loads of brick and block deliveries as well as foot traffic from multiple trades.

Loading bays are built into the structure at key points so materials can be craned or hoisted directly to the working level, reducing manual handling and keeping the build moving at the pace the programme needs.

Methods

The scaffold typically starts at ground floor for brick and block work, then is raised lift by lift as each storey is completed, with ties fixed back into the structure as it becomes available. Roof-level access is added once the structure tops out, ready for tiling, guttering and flashing work.

On larger or non-standard structures, we provide design drawings and calculations at extra charge, giving site managers and building control confirmation that the scaffold meets the loading and stability needs of the specific build.

Service variations

A single self-build plot generally needs a straightforward scaffold that follows one elevation sequence, while a small development of several plots needs coordinated access across multiple structures, often staggered so trades can move from plot to plot without delay.

Timber-frame builds and traditional brick-and-block builds also call for different scaffold timing; timber frames often need earlier full-height access for weatherproofing, while brick and block builds need the scaffold to rise in step with each course of masonry.

Where it applies

This covers single self-build houses, small developments, and infill plots across our working area, from initial foundation-level brickwork through to roofing and final finishing trades such as render, cladding and windows.

It's equally relevant to garages, outbuildings and ancillary structures being built as part of a wider new-build project, which we can plan into the same overall scaffold layout where the site allows.

Residential vs commercial

Most new-build scaffolding we do is residential; individual plots and small developments across Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and the surrounding area; where the build programme is usually managed directly by a builder or self-builder we work closely with throughout.

Larger commercial new-build or multi-unit developments typically need a formally engineered scaffold design with full drawings and calculations, closer coordination with site management, and a build sequence agreed well in advance of the first lift going up.

Questions Answered

Still unsure? Ring 07355 037000 and speak to Katie or Mason directly.

How much does new-build scaffolding cost?+

It depends on the size of the build and how many stages the scaffold needs to follow, so we quote after a free site survey. We'll beat any genuine written quote you've already received.

How long does it take to get scaffolding up on a new build?+

Initial ground-floor scaffolding can often go up within days of the survey, with further lifts added as the build progresses. Timing is confirmed in the written quote.

What does the process look like for a new-build project?+

Free survey, written quote within a day, then a phased build from our CISRS-carded team, with RAMS, scaff tags and inspection records provided at each stage.

Do you guarantee the scaffold will be safe for the whole build?+

Yes. Every scaffold we build is guaranteed secure, safe and fit for its intended purpose, with weekly inspections throughout the hire period.

How long can we keep scaffolding on site for a new build?+

Six weeks is included as standard, and we extend it as needed since most new-build programmes run well beyond that initial period.

Can you respond quickly if the build schedule changes?+

Yes, our phone is answered out of hours and we aim for a fast response, day or night, to help keep the build programme on track.

What paperwork do you provide for building control or site management?+

RAMS, scaff tags and inspection records as standard, plus design drawings and calculations for non-standard or larger structures at extra charge.

Do you work on new-build sites outside Tonbridge?+

Yes, we cover new-build projects across Kent, Sussex and London, including Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Ashford, Canterbury, Dartford and Gravesend.
